This new section of our Blogger dashboards makes it easier than ever to integrate Google Adsense in our blogs and see just how much our blogs are earning.


Google's Adsense program is a simple solution which many Bloggers use to monetize their sites. For some time now, Blogger have made it easy for us to include Adsense ads in the sidebar (as a page element) and around blog posts (as an option in the Layout>Page Elements section, when you click the "Edit" link for your blog posts).

If you have already configured Adsense in your blog by adding an Adsense page element to the layout, or enabling ads between posts, by clicking on the Monetize tab you will be able to see statistics for your earnings, like this:

On this page, there are also links to view your Adsense Payment History, earnings reports and to switch the account associated with this particular blog. You can also choose to "remove ads" from all aspects of your Blogger layout at the click of a button.

For those who have not yet chosen to monetize their sites with Adsense, or who have configured Adsense manually in their templates, you will see a page like this instead:

This means that your Adsense account has not been associated with this blog. No earnings reports will be displayed, even if - like me - you have manually configured Adsense by adding the required JavaScript to your Blogger template code.

For those of you yet to add Adsense to your layout, simply choose one of the ad-layout options most suitable for your needs anc click the "Next" button. You may be required to set up an Adsense account (or associate an existing account with your Blogger profile), after which your ads will be immediately placed in your layout. Then when you visit the Monetize tab, you will be able to see details of your Adsense earnings for the ads you have placed in your layout.

What you need to know about Adsense monetization and the new Monetize tab

Although Blogger have made it very easy for members to add Adsense to their blogs, not every applicant will be successful in getting their own Adsense account.

Adsense reviews all applicants to the program before agreeing to (or denying) a new account. In order to apply for an Adsense account, you must be over 18 years old and have a website which complies with Adsense policies. If you post any questionable content on your site, you really should check these policies to ensure your site complies before submitting your application.

Also, the reports displayed on the Monetize tab will only show page views and earnings from the time that you connected your Adsense account with this blog. If you have previously linked your Adsense account with your Blogger profile, it seems the "All Time" earnings will display earnings from today onwards (one of my blogs uses an Adsense Page Element, but is only displaying earnings from today).

A new channel in your Adsense account for each Blogger blog you monetize

If you log into your Adsense account, you will notice a new channel has been set up for each of your blogs, which contains the URL of your blog in the title.

The information from this channel is what's used to present the earnings data for the Monetize section of each blog you write.

Not yet an ideal solution for everyone...

I am very happy to see that the Blogger team have put such effort towards integrating all of the Google services we Bloggers currently use. However, I am a little disappointed at some aspects of this new feature.

For my own blogs, I have added Adsense manually, by editing the Blogger template and inserting ad codes where I would like them to be displayed. For this reason, I am unable to see any reports on the Monetize tab. In fact, it appears as though I have not set Adsense up at all.

Also, the earnings displayed on the Monetize page will only include the earnings for this particular blog, not your total earnings from any different sites operated.

However, these are small issues, and perhaps these issues will not affect most other Blogger users.

Let's take a look at a fictitious example which we will call 'Joe Bloggs - Tech Reviews'
Note: The figures used in the following example do not relate to our site or any other publisher. They are used only as a fictitious example. Remember you are prohibited from publishing any of your adsense earnings (except the gross earnings)

Keyword Value
The keyword value determines how much your ads are going to be worth per click. This is driven by your sites content and its not something you have much control over. A good keyword value will be worth over $1 per click to make us anywhere near a pro Adsense earner. In Joe's case he has a 'Tech' site so we will pretend he gets $1 per click.

Web Traffic
Web traffic is highly important for any website not just ones running Adsense. A high number of visitors will produce a high earning rate (driven by CTR). Remember, CTR is only a number, without good web traffic you won't earn anywhere near as much. Let's imagine that Joe gets 500,000 page views a month on his site.

Adsense Optimization
In an ideal world we would like to have all our pages optimized to perfection. In reality this is very difficult to achieve and you should aim as near to perfection without going overboard. The more optimization you achieve the higher your CTR will become. Let's say that Joe has been fairly careful with his optimization and achieves an average CTR of 5%. Remember, the higher the CTR the high the number of clicks per impression.

Ok, putting this all together:

$1 per click (on average)
500,000 page impressions per month
5% CTR

With these statistics Joe would be earning a comfortable $25,000 a month through Adsense.

Now Joe has got really serious and used his Competitive Ad Filter, and put even more effort into Adsense optimization.

New stats:

$1.25 per click (on average)
500,000 page impressions per month
6% CTR

Joe's new Adsense earnings after a little work would be $37,500 a month.

As you can see that's a huge difference with just a little bit of extra work. This is the difference between a pro Adsense earner and beginner. Constantly working to improve your CTR and weeding out MFA sites can improve your Adsense earnings dramatically.


So who earns the most?

Theres not much evidence to prove who earns the most but known top earners are:

1. In demand Blogs
2. Popular community sites e.g. MySpace, YouTube
3. File sharing gateways

The lower end of the scale are:

1. Personal websites (low web traffic)
2. MFA sites (smart pricing takes over)
3. Specialized sites (low keyword value)


Top Adsense Earners

The top earners all have something in common - web traffic. If we take a look at the in demand blog we can take a pretty good guess as to what it might make. An in demand blog most probably has a page rank close to 7 or 8 and a Google search position around 1-5. This means they're likely to receive around 5 million page impressions a month.

With CTR at 4% and a low cost per click they are still earning around $100,000 a month! That's a massive revenue in anyones books and should be enough to spur any of you on!!

I was reading a very interesting post at digitalpoint forum where a gentlemen involved in invalid click activity and his adsense account was banned like many others.  I could understand the way he felt because almost every adsense newbie is inclined towards self clicking or invalid clicking initially, due to lack of awareness.
Do keep in mind that Google is smart enough to track down the illegal activities of your adsense account and sooner of later such accounts get banned. Google adsense uses multiple algorithms to detect click fraud and consequently ban an account.
Case 1: When you are guilty
If you really did the click fraud and your adsense account got banned, then there is absolutely no hope that you will get your Google adsense account back. So, all you need to do is to apply for a new one with changed address, IP, and payee name and restart your adsense career. You can use your relative’s name/address which you can change it later.
Case 2: When you are not guilty

When you are confident that you haven’t done anything wrong against Terms and Conditions of Google Adsense, then you have a fair chance of getting back your Google Adsense account by following these steps without being panic.
Step 1- Gather all the facts
If you can collect all the information which can help you defend your case with google. You need to know if a friend, family member, or employee (i.e. someone under your control) clicked your ads. Did you ask someone to click? Did you click by accident? Gather the facts, even if they reveal actual invalid clicks.
Step 2- Fill out the Appeal Form

There is a simple form to fill out to appeal this decision. Be honest, truthful, and tell Google what happened. If you have no knowledge of invalid clicks, say that. If someone accidentally clicked, explain that. If a visitor maliciously clicked repeatedly, tell Google the story. You’ve got nothing to lose at this point.
Step 3-Be Patient
When you fill out this form it says it’s going to take 48 hours to process your appeal. But it may take longer than expected, so keep yourself cool and be mentally prepared for it.
Step 4- If you are successful, Celebrate it
If you put up your case well with google, then there is a good chance that you might succeed in reinstating your Google Adsense Account. So, celebrate your success! It will take Google up to 48 hours to start displaying ads again, so be patient. You might lose a week of earnings, but that’s nothing in the long run.
Step 5- Re-Appeal and Re-Re-Appeal
If you don’t get any response from Google Adsense within a week which means your account is still banned, then appeal again. Be polite, professional, and honest. Dig back through your information and see if you missed something that might be important
